This project involved the design and construction of three schools on a single, shared education campus at Summerhill, The Downs, Portlaoise, Co. Laois.
Maryborough (Church of Ireland) National School consists of a 4-classroom school.
Portlaoise Educate Together is a 16 classroom schools with GP Halls and SNU blocks.
Gaelscoil Portlaoise is a 16 classroom schools with GP Halls and SNU blocks.
As the Lead Design and Build Contractor, Western were responsible for all design elements, site development works, civils works, and mechanical and electrical installations on this job. The entire school campus was handed over 2 weeks ahead of contract programme.
The building construction form consisted of piled foundations, structural steel frame, in-situ and precast floor slabs, traditional cavity blockwork external walls, weber render finish to walls, fair faced block work internal walls and Kalzip curved roof build up system. BER rating of A3 was achieved with an average air-tightness rating across all 3.no schools of 1.98 (m3/hr)/m2 at 50 Pa.
