Western were contracted by Rossdale Developments for the construction of a new supermarket in Coalisland. Around 400 people were employed by Western during the construction of the new 25,000 sq ft Newell Stores supermarket and as the main contractor, Western Building Systems were responsible for all site development works, civils works, and mechanical and electrical installations.

The build process for the supermarket was 7 months. Within the contract, Western were responsible for:

  • Demolition of existing
    buildings on the site
  • Build of new supermarket
  • Fit out of new supermarket

The building construction form consisted of piled foundations, structural steel frame, insitu and precast floor slabs, traditional cavity blockwork external walls, weber render finish to walls, fair faced blockwork internal walls and a Kingspan roof system. Western made use of our advanced off-site manufacturing facilities to manufacture external wall panels, internal wall panels, windows and doors, internal door-sets and fitted furniture. This overlap of programme and full control of off-site manufacture of sub-assemblies ensures that the off-site components are ready to be installed onsite at the earliest possible opportunity.

The key was to introduce as many off-site manufactured components as possible, overlap as many trades as possible while maintaining a safe working environments and introducing finishing trades into the building at the earliest possible opportunity. This has all been achieved by Western Building Systems by formulating and carefully planning a comprehensive programme of works.

The Master Programme, once formulated is strictly adhered to during the Build process. Our expertise, project management skills and in-house manufacturing facilities enable us to deliver exceptional buildings within strict budgets and timeframe.
