At Western, we believe that investing in people is just as important as investing in projects. One of the ways we do this is by supporting work experience opportunities, giving young people the chance to gain first-hand insight into the construction industry and explore the many career paths it has to offer.
Recently, we were delighted to welcome James Breen, who spent a week on work experience with us alongside his father, Benny Breen. Throughout the week, James had the opportunity to experience life on site, learning about the day-to-day operations of a construction project while working alongside experienced members of our team.
Construction is an industry built on practical skills, teamwork and a commitment to high standards. While these qualities are difficult to fully appreciate in a classroom, work experience provides an invaluable opportunity to see them in action. From observing how projects are managed to understanding the importance of health and safety, communication and collaboration, experiences like these help young people develop a realistic understanding of what a career in construction involves.
Work experience also plays an important role in building confidence and inspiring future career choices. Whether someone goes on to become a tradesperson, site manager, engineer or quantity surveyor, spending time in a real working environment can help shape their ambitions and provide a clearer picture of the opportunities available within the industry.
As a company, we are proud to support initiatives that encourage the next generation to consider careers in construction. The industry continues to evolve, offering rewarding, varied and long-term career opportunities for those with the enthusiasm to learn and develop.
We would like to thank James for his enthusiasm throughout the week and hope the experience has provided valuable knowledge and inspiration for the future. It was also a pleasure to see him learning alongside Benny and the wider Western team, who were more than happy to share their experience and expertise.
At Western, we remain committed to supporting future talent and helping to build the next generation of skilled construction professionals. We look forward to continuing to provide opportunities like this in the years ahead.
