Project Overview

Gaelscoil Phortlaoise was founded in 1998 to service the needs of the Irish language community in the greater Portlaoise area. Since then the school has gone from strength to strength culminating in the construction of a new school building. Western, as the Lead Design and Building Contractor on the project, was responsible for building the school comprising of 16 classrooms, a Sports Hall and a Special Needs Units.  The school build was part of a campus in Portlaoise including two other new Schools for Department of Education and Skills.

Construction process

Western were responsible for all design elements, site development works, mechanical and electrical installations. The buildings were a permanent build schools consisting of structural steel frame, precast concrete floors and block plastered walls. The building was a complete turnkey solution with each phase completed within programme.

Handover

Western carried out this project concurrently with seven other school projects as part of the Build Schools Framework.
