Project Overview

Gaelscoil na Mona in Belfast is a three classrooms and a resource unit completed to a rigorous new Department of Education specification using thermal wood panelling and external metal clad finishes.

Construction process

Western were Lead Design & Build Contractor who employed a specialist design team for architectural, mechanical & electrical and structural & civil design. As lead contractor Westerb were responsible from Green field site to final hand over of turnkey building. The project consisted of the construction of a steel framed 4 classroom modular constructed building with resource area and ancillary accommodation.
Western were responsible for all design elements, site development works, mechanical & electrical installations. WBS also employed an acoustic consultant to ensure that the Building was designed and manufactured in accordance with BB 93. In our role we were also responsible for all Building Control Applications, Plan Approval & Final Completion Certification. In our role we also liaised with all utility bodies including electricity & gas providers as well as dealing with surface water & foul water applications to local councils.
The external cladding system was a heavy duty colour coded plastisol steel cladding with a Kingspan insulated panel roofing system.


Working in partnership with Belfast-based architects Mackel and Doherty, Western pulled out all the stops to part-build the permanent EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) rated A3 structure off site, completing the project on site in September for opening mid-October.
